Course Overview
The University Foundation Programme (UFP) Science & Pharmacy Foundation Pathway is an intensive one year foundation course, which will prepare you for a wide range of Science and Pharmacy bachelor degrees.
The UFP Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course enables you to build the strong medical knowledge required to study a biosciences or pharmacy related degree course. The UK is an established world leader in this subject area and graduates are in very high demand. This Pharmacy and Medical Science foundation course combines scientific theory and practical elements, so our students leave with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to progress in any area of the profession.
From genetics to immunology to bionic limbs, there are many developing areas in the field of Science and Pharmacy that will affect our everyday lives in the future. While there is still a lot to discover about the human body, patients’ lives and care are improving all the time and the demand for graduates in this field has never been higher.

Course Modules
In the first term, students complete three minor modules, in addition to Introductory Biology and Introductory Chemistry. In terms 2 and 3, students choose three major modules from a selection of subjects.

The UFP Science & Pharmacy Foundation Course consists of interactive classroom learning, tutorials, and frequent laboratory sessions. We have three custom-built, university grade Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories.
The Science & Pharmacy foundation course is continually assessed, thus removing the pressure of an end-of-year examination. There will be mid-term examinations throughout the course and an end-of-term examination for each module. In addition, students are required to complete coursework and practical laboratory sessions. We offer a university approved syllabus that fully prepares students for their undergraduate studies. Our teachers are highly qualified and are specialists in their field. The exceptional standard of education allows students to make a smooth transition to undergraduate degree level.

Students will be assessed through a combination of coursework, projects, presentations, and written examinations. Regular assignments and mock tests will help track progress and prepare students for final assessments. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical understanding and practical application to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of each student’s abilities. Feedback will be provided throughout the course to support continuous improvement and academic success.

The University Foundation Programme (UFP) offers two start dates—September and January.
For both timelines, students complete their foundation year course and progress to university in September, joining the new academic year.

We have two start dates for our foundation courses
– September and January.
Depending on when prospective students finish their senior school studies, they have the option of beginning their course sooner or slightly later. Both complete in time for a September start at university the following year.
Holidays
The holiday schedule for students enrolled in the University Foundation Programme (UFP) varies depending on the course start date.

September Intake: Students beginning the UFP in September will benefit from a 3-week Christmas break and a 2-week Easter holiday.

January Intake: Students who start the UFP in January will have a 2-week Easter holiday.

Entry Requirements
Age Requirement
All students must be 16 years 6 months old or more to be eligible to apply for a foundation programme.
Academic Requirements
All students need to have completed up to the GCSE equivalent
level.
Minimum of 5 A*-C grades, including Mathematics
